Cancer Overview

1. Understanding stage

TNM staging describes tumour size and spread to lymph nodes or distant organs. It helps classify cancer into stages I–IV.

Early stages are often curable with local treatment, while advanced stages usually need multimodality therapy.

2. Treatment pillars

Surgery, systemic therapy (chemotherapy, targeted, immunotherapy) and radiation are combined depending on cancer type and stage.

Decisions are best taken in a tumour board, where surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists and other specialists discuss each case.

3. Life after treatment

Follow-up schedules, imaging and endoscopy are planned according to the cancer type and risk of recurrence.

Rehabilitation, nutrition, exercise and psychosocial support are important parts of survivorship care.

This section is meant to give a broad framework for patients and families. Individual treatment plans are personalised after reviewing reports and discussing options in detail during consultation.
